Home Cooked Feast for all!

Perfect Red Sauce for all your red sauce needs

For a delicious red sauce on flatbreads, thin crust, deep dish or dipping marinara. With easily on-hand ingredients, quick prep and very little effort, this simple pizza marinara sauce is a great way to impress your guests and eat well!

It all starts with the Sauce.

Well, that not entirely true, but this is a pretty slick recipe. I have used tomato paste and/or stewed tomatoes (then blended/finely chopped) – you’ll either have to dilute it or thicken it.

Simple Pizza Marinara

I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure if it's actually how real marinara is supposed to be made, but man does this taste good on a pizza pie. @HomeCookedFeast we cheat until we make it!

  • Simmer until reduced to a nice thick, but spreadable sauce, approx 20 minutes. The goal is to have a nice cohesive, but liquid sauce. Imagine the consistency of bolognese/meat sauce.

Notes

If your sauce is too liquidy, even in a cast iron, you will wet the bottom crust and it will not toast up like it is meant to. No one wants a soggy bottom.
If necessary, take the extra 5-8 min to reduce so that there’s not chance of soupiness. Remember, vegetables (and even meat) can lose liquid during cooking, so make sure you take the extra time to get it right!
